Position Summary:

Creative Associates seeks an Agriculture Specialist to support the implementation of the Inter-American Development Bank's Comprehensive Rural Development and Productivity Project. The project's general objective is to sustainably increase the income of rural households in Honduras's Dry Corridor. Its specific objective is to improve productive development in the project's target area by providing technologies, production-related technical assistance, and access to financing for the beneficiary population.

Reporting & Supervision:

The Agriculture Specialist will report to the Headquarters-based Project Director.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the technical lead for the project;
  • Supervise value chain assessments and oversee the value chain selection process. This includes developing scopes of work for any consultants/volunteers who may be required to help carry out these assessments;
  • Design activities that increase agricultural production and market linkages that lead to increased profitability of on-farm enterprises. This includes the development and implementation of upgrading plans in targeted value chains with a focus on improving smallholder crop and livestock productivity and net revenues;
  • Provide technical leadership for the design, formalization, and management of private sector partnerships (PPPs). Identify, assess, and recommend potential private sector partners and partnership opportunities.;
  • Coordinate and collaborate with local partners including private enterprises and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) working on agricultural development;
  • Provide technical input into quarterly and annual reports; and
  • Provide content to success stories and other project documents.
    Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in agriculture or related field;

  • 10 years of experience implementing projects in agriculture, agribusiness, value chains in Honduras;

  • Relevant experience in smart agriculture practices, food security and agribusiness programs, agriculture value chains, and irrigation systems, as well as in the design, management, and monitoring and evaluation of activity plans at the senior professional or management level in government, NGOs, donor organizations or the private sector;

  • In-depth knowledge of strategies, programs, and working methodologies in the agriculture sector, specifically knowledge of irrigated agriculture in Honduras;

  • Knowledge of other donor programs in Honduras' agriculture and economic growth sectors and familiarity with Government of Honduras programs; and

  • Spanish fluency.
    Desired Skills & Qualifications:

  • Recognized expertise in water management related to both increased productivity and proper watershed/small basins management; and

  • Additional experience in other related development sectors.
