CHAI's global malaria program provides management and technical support to countries around the globe to strengthen their malaria programs and reduce the burden of this preventable, treatable disease. We support governments to scale up effective interventions for prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance, with the goals of sustainably reducing the number of malaria-related illnesses and deaths worldwide in the short-term and accelerating progress towards malaria elimination in the long term.

CHAI is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong public health experience and analytical skills to support vector control, surveillance, analytics, and operational activities related to malaria elimination efforts in Honduras. The Technical Associate will focus primarily on supporting Honduras's national malaria program by providing analytical and operational assistance with planning effective vector control interventions, monitoring and evaluating programs, analyzing surveillance data, and other relevant activities for malaria elimination. The individual will work as part of a team providing technical, operational, and managerial support to the government and will interact with a wide range of national stakeholders, necessitating strong communication and organizational skills.

Malaria elimination involves both technical and logistical challenges. The successful candidate will need to have outstanding analytical and communication skills, as well as be highly skilled at problem-solving, troubleshooting, and relationship building. He/she must have a deep personal commitment to producing results and working independently without daily supervision. The base location for this position will be Tegucigalpa, Honduras. This role requires regular travel (up to 50%) to high risk, remote regions of the country with limited infrastructure and medical care.

• Serving as a trusted adviser to the Ministry of Health staff on issues related to malaria elimination, including vector control, case management, and surveillance
• Providing guidance and analytical support to the malaria program on vector control and entomological investigation, monitoring and surveillance, and interpreting intervention results. This requires translating evidence, current research, and normative guidelines in these fields into practical programmatic and field operations
• Designing and facilitating implementation of operational research projects, including conducting background research, designing surveys, writing protocols, conducting data analysis, and writing reports
• Providing technical and operational support with implementing vector control interventions, including long-lasting insecticidal hammocks, larval source management, and indoor residual spraying, in targeted foci of transmission
• Cleaning, organizing, and analyzing datasets, and conducting epidemiological and spatial analyses of surveillance, vector and intervention data
• Translating results of analyses to national and sub-national government partners to support evidence-based decision making, and disseminating findings through high-quality and clear presentations, reports, and publications
• Updating national guidelines and policies to align with global elimination recommendations
• Identifying key impediments to the successful execution of malaria elimination plans and work with malaria programs and other partners to develop solutions to rapidly address those bottlenecks
• Proactively developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders across government and non-governmental organizations
• Developing detailed operational plans, operating procedures, and associated training materials to build government capacity and support effective execution of malaria program
• Working with CHAI's technical teams, country teams, and regional managers to develop and implement coordinated program support

• Fluency (reading, writing, and speaking) in Spanish and English

• Master's degree in Public Health epidemiology, social sciences, biology, or related fields preferred, and 3+ years of working experience with increasing levels of responsibility and leadership

• Proven experience in building and maintaining relationships with partners from government and/or other complex organizations

• High levels of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

• Knowledge of major global infectious disease problems, preferably malaria

• Superb problem-solving skills, and enthusiasm for applying analytical methods to solve global health problems

• Excellent written and oral communications skills, including report-writing skills

• Exceptional attention to detail

• Excellent organization and management skills, including time management and project management

• Demonstrated ability to work independently in unstructured settings and to adapt to new environments and challenges

• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and set priorities in remote settings

• Ability to be effective, patient, and thoughtful in high-pressure situations
