POSITION SUMMARY:

The Temporary Program Associate provides programmatic support, including financial, logistical, administrative, research, writing and data analysis assistance to the Honduras office and the Latin America Programs. He/she works collaboratively with the field staff and in-country partners, as well as the DC-based Latin America staff. He/she demonstrates knowledge of human rights challenges in Honduras.

This is a nonexempt position. Position holder must obtain written authorization from supervisor before working in excess of 40 hours in a work-week.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND EXPECTATIONS:

  • Provide programmatic, logistical, and administrative support to DC-based Latin America staff and in-country partners on a daily basis
  • Prepare and review expense reports, financial reports, and payment requests in compliance with Freedom House and donor requirements
  • Draft contracts, letters of agreement, and other contractual documents for partners and vendors
  • Track and update program expenditures on a daily basis
  • Assist with data collection and quarterly report draft
  • Arrange travel plans including flight and hotel research and booking, visa application, etc.
  • Maintain program files, folders, and databases for secure and easy access and retrieval
  • Draft press releases, briefings, quarterly project reports, and project proposals
  • Assist with outreach to other organizations and partners for collaboration
  • Represent team in external meetings and backstopping calls
  • Conduct desk research for proposals, budget narratives, news updates, press statements, events, etc.
  • Limit the use of electronic devices such to work-related purposes
  • Other related duties as assigned

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, Latin American Studies, or other Social Science or related field

Experience:

  • ​1-2 years of relevant professional experience
  • Experience living, volunteering, working, or studying in Honduras
  • Familiarity with human rights or democracy-related issues in Honduras is preferred
  • Experience managing grants, including USG funding, is a plus

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to apply superb attention to detail and consistently produce timely and error-free work
  • Fluency in oral and written Spanish is required
  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent research, analytical, writing, and organizational skills
  • Mastery of MS Office Suite, with experience developing and maintaining budgets in Excel
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and grant-related compliance requirements preferred
  • Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all times
  • Ability to successfully work in a diverse and multicultural environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Strong ability to prioritize work and multi task to meet tight deadlines in a fast paced environment
  • Flexible and adaptable with a good sense of humor and positive attitude
