Overview
Youth Employment for Migration Prevention (YEMP) opportunity in Honduras. The Communications Manager is responsible for leading project outreach in intervention communities, developing effective success stories, weekly, bi-weekly, and quarterly reports, newsletters, press releases and other written material to meet the project's deliverables and communicate our results to USAID and audiences in Honduras and in the United States.
Reporting and Supervision:
The Communications Manager will report to the Operations Director and may supervise a team of Communications Officers.
Responsibilities
- Create and implement comprehensive communications outreach plan that utilizes relevant channels for the dissemination of information on project activities and their results;
- Advise staff on public relations techniques impacting program activities including potential problems and opportunities in the various communities served;
- Provide appropriate materials to the USAID Mission about the project that may be used for dissemination on Mission web pages, other USAID Missions, visiting delegations and to HQ;
- Write and supervise the writing and dissemination of success stories, feature stories, news releases and selected reports (such as USAID quarterly and annual reports);
- Produce content for use on social media and manages these outlets;
- Identify and work with outside contractors, such as photographers, videographers and other communications professionals, to meet the goals of program.
- Produce posters, signs, displays, media campaigns, etc.;
- Implement the USAID Branding and Marking Plan for the project;
- Support the Director of Operations in consolidating the project's reporting requirements;
- Ensure that reports are submitted to USAID on a timely fashion;
- Identify and write success stories that meet USAID's standards;
- Organize outreach events; and
Collaborate with HQ Communications team.**Qualifications**
Bachelor's degree in journalism, development, communication, education or a related field is required;
At least six (6) years of relevant work experience with at least four (4) years communications experience;
Familiarity with USAID branding policies and procedures with hands-on experience with communications on a USAID project strongly preferred;
Experience in managing a broad mix of communications responsibilities for similar projects;
Experience in building and effectively supervising a diverse team of employees and partners;
Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, proactive, creative problem solving and ethical management;
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills; and
Excellent oral and written English and Spanish.
