Honduras: Chief of party

Chemonics seeks a chief of party for an anticipated three-year USAID project for improving management of water resources in the "Dry Corridor" of western Honduras by implementing micro-watershed protection and management. The project will also facilitate locally led development initiatives and rural road improvements and other activities as part of a larger effort with other organizations and donors to improve agricultural livelihoods, food security, and nutrition in a water-scarce environment. The chief of party will be based in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide overall technical and managerial leadership, ensuring the project's targeted results are achieved on schedule, resources are used effectively, deliverables are of the highest quality, and partners are meeting their commitments
  • Supervise a diverse project team
  • Serve as the project's senior representative and manage relations with the Honduran government; USAID; and other key private, public, and international stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher in natural resources management, business, agricultural economics, environment, watershed management, forestry, or other relevant field required
  • Minimum 15 years of progressively more responsible international work experience in watershed management, local economic growth, and/or development programs, with at least 10 years of experience in Spanish-speaking Latin American countries
  • Chief of party experience working with government entities and/or USAID on at least two development projects of a similar scope (addressing watershed management, rural development, social inclusion and gender integration, local governance, and/or agriculture/food security)
  • Record of accomplishment for achieving high-level development results as chief of party or in other senior management positions required
  • Knowledge about addressing rural gender disparities and creating opportunities for women's leadership and participation in rural development and food security programs
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Record of accomplishment in managing effective and open client relations, meeting deadlines, and providing technical and managerial leadership
  • Experience managing large teams of local professionals and operating effectively in diverse cultural environments
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish required
