Position Summary
Internews seeks a Media Specialist/Advisor for a USAID-funded civil society and media support program in Honduras. The Media Specialist/Advisor is responsible for capacity building of Honduran media partners, as well as promoting a strategic communications approach to catalyze public demand for accountability, and incorporating this approach as crosscutting to all results of the program. The Media Specialist/Advisor will be delegated other management responsibilities by the project Chief of Party (COP) as appropriate, including staff performance management, project management and senior representation roles. The position will be based in Honduras. Please note the position is contingent upon receipt of funding.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Technical support, guidance and mentoring to media partners and beneficiaries.
- Work with the Chief of Party, local partners, and local staff to design innovative strategies that support Honduran media outlets and strengthen the media and civil society sectors holistically.
- Maintain in-depth understanding of issues affecting both the media community and the civil society community in Honduras, including security and political factors.
- Work with program management team to ensure effective implementation of local media partner activities as well as advise on local partner progress.
- Strengthen and oversee curriculum development, training and mentoring activities.
- Support strategic communications efforts to catalyze public demand for accountability, advance key new and ongoing reform efforts, and promote anti-corruption work, including designing and implementing media tools to help define key messages and serve as a delivery platform.
- Provide input to program management and M&E/grant management staff on formal reporting requirements.
- Draft and submit deliverables such as work plans, proposals, annual reports, and M&E reports.

Qualifications
- At least five (5) years’ experience in strategic communications, media advocacy and engagement on rule of law, human rights, transparency and accountability issues, or related fields.
- Two (2) or more year’s technical experience in dealing with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience in media work in Honduras preferred.
- Significant social and digital media expertise.
- Fluency in Spanish and English.
- Experience providing technical assistance on USG-funded media and/or civil society projects in complex development environments.
- Thorough understanding of the technical, political and social issues specific to Honduras and Central America, particularly relating to freedom of expression and the enabling environment for civil society and media.
- Experience in journalism training and media capacity-building preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to interact effectively with local and international partners, staff, and government officials.
